The 55 and over community goal being to give the residents a life of comfort, joy, and fulfillment.
A retirement 55 and over community, or active adult community, is a very broad, generic term that covers many varieties of housing for retirees and seniors – especially designed or geared for people who no longer work, or restricted to those over a certain age. The common age is 55 years or older. This is where the term "55+" is derived. An active adult 55 and over community differs from a "retirement home." A retirement home is a single building or small complex where no “common areas” for socializing exist. Most active adult 55 and over communities are planned specifically for that socializing purpose, and have special facilities catering to the needs and wants of retirees, including extensive social and active amenities.
